I took out a pack of chicken a few hours ago to defrost for tea tonight. Due to unforeseen circumstances it aren't going to eat it and have a meal out planned tomorrow. .. will it keep til Sun or Mon? Thanks! Xx

I'd only leave it in the fridge for 24 hours. Why not cook it then you can refreeze it?

Because it's to go in a curry and havent got time to cook refreeze and defrost again in less than 48 hours.

You can't defrost, freeze them defrost again anyway cos it will make you unwell, how about if you maike the curry when you have a little bit of time, you can then freeze that, otherwise i would not leave defrosted chicken in the fridge more than 24 hours without using it x

I'm a restaurant manager, you can keep raw chicken defrosted safely for 3 days, never ever re-freeze though! Xx

Surely it would depend how much time was left on the expiry date before OP froze it though? I'm always buying reduced stuff so try to use up ASAP after defrosting. But if it was bought with long date and frozen quickly I would prob leave it for a couple of days.
Blimey you'll wish you never asked!!
A good sniff before cooking always helps make your mind up too.....

No as long as wasn't out of date when frozen. Some foods can be frozen for 6 months and then used. Some only a month. But defrosting usually takes 24 hours to get rid of the ices and then another 2 days before the food degrades and would be unsafe to eat. X

If it smells like the bottom off your bin don't eat it LOL

As a food microbiologist would recommend cook within 24 hours. Could cook tomorrow for consumption Sunday or Monday (post appropriate quick cooling (fridge temp within 4 hours ideally).

Sorry to hijack your thread Jayne but I was wondering, I've had some frozen chicken fillets and a pack of frozen diced chicken in my freezer since last March. I'm assuming I'm not going to be able to use them now tbh (don't know why I haven't used them up before now), but does anyone know for sure that they'll be no good? Thanks in advance
X

I'm sure it's something like 6 months. A whole chicken will last longer in the freezer but I, personally, wouldn't risk either whole or pieces of chicken after a year.
